My name is Chad Metrick.  I have a Bachelor's degree in Media Arts & Animation from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.  My focus is on 3D modeling and animation, but my skill set encompasses much more.

About Me

Artist & Animator

In my past jobs, I've been responsible for creating everything from character animations for instructional videos to logo and lower-third animations for private broadcasts.  From 2008 to 2011, I served as Director of Art & Animation at NexGen Productions in Pittsburgh.  Prior to that, from 2007 to 2008, I worked as an artist at Accuweather in State College, Pennsylvania, creating science illustrations for K-12 lesson plans.  To sum it all up, here's some of the software that I most often use and in which I know my way around:

    -Autodesk 3ds Max
    -Adobe Creative Suite, primarily:
        -Photoshop
        -Illustrator
        -After Effects

I've also worked, to a lesser extent, with Autodesk's Mudbox and Maya, Adobe's Flash, Premiere, and Soundbooth, as well as the Unity game engine and Unreal Development Kit.

So, going back, you might be asking, "Pittsburgh?"  Or you might not be asking, but I'll answer it anyway:  That's right!  I've had the pleasure of living, learning, and working in the city of Pittsburgh for over 10 years.  Whatever anyone tells you, (and I doubt many would contradict me) it is a great city, and I would encourage anyone to visit.

It should come as no surprise, then, that I'm a big Pittsburgh Penguins fan.  I also love video games, movies, history, science fiction, fantasy, and I like to try to keep up with current affairs and international politics.  I've dabbled in music, the guitar being my best instrumental skill.  Here are some results of my playing around with Image-Line's FL Studio software:

Space Defender - I wrote this to accompany a side-scrolling shooter game I was working on in Flash.

I'm looking for work, be it full-time, short-term contract, or freelance.  I'm particularly interested in a position that would involve 3D character modeling and/or animation to be used in video games.  I love Pittsburgh, but I certainly don't mind going wherever a job takes me.  If you've got some work for me, feel free to reach out to me via the Contact page.  Thanks for reading!
